Website Adventure Nerds

Be curious and choose adventure.

Do you dream about getting paid to go on adventures?

So do we.

We started Adventure Nerds to share the knowledge of the outdoor community, increase access to adventure, inspire action, and build connections that support everyone getting outside more.

We recently graduated from the Waypoint Accelerator program, and we are recruiting writers to create guidebooks for multi-day outdoor adventures.

We are looking for outdoor enthusiasts who have experience planning multi-day outdoor adventures and are excited to think deeply about adventures and share their knowledge with others.

Our focus is on multi-day, expeditionary (move locations at least once) activities like backpacking, bikepacking, overlanding, paddling, skiing, surfing, and multi-sport activities. We recommend that first-time authors propose a 2-4 day adventure for their first book.

If you enjoy adventure and writing and taking photographs, this might be the perfect opportunity for you.

We encourage all people of all backgrounds to apply. You don’t have to be an outdoor expert, but you must have extensive knowledge of your proposed adventure and enjoy immersing yourself in the details of planning adventures.

Unlike most freelance contracts, we pay per assignment, and you also become a published author of a book and earn royalties from book sales. We are excited to support the outdoor community and expand access to adventure for all.

  • Conduct significant research about the adventure and area.
  • Go on an adventure! If you have already completed the adventure, we highly suggest that you do it again to collect new data and photographs to produce the guidebook.
  • Take detailed notes and photographs.
  • Follow style guidelines and templates to complete the project.
  • Write a mix of technical, informational, and narrative content for beginners and outdoor experts.
  • Submit writing, supporting resources, photographs, videos, and illustrations to Google Drive.
  • Revise work based on editorial feedback.
  • Promote the book.

  • Have access to equipment, transportation, time, financial resources, and the skills needed to complete the adventure.
  • Have a computer and be familiar with using Google Workspace (Documents, Sheets, Drive) to write and submit work.
  • Have equipment for taking high-quality photos and video
  • Be able to work independently with little to no supervision.
  • Be self-motivated to produce exceptionally well-researched content that distills complex ideas into organized and accessible language.
  • Follow an editorial calendar and work with editors to revise and submit work on time.

  • Review our website to learn more about us.
  • Complete the initial author application survey (five multiple-choice questions and one short-answer question).
  • If the proposal is a good fit, we will send you more information and a follow-up survey with detailed questions.
  • Then, we will schedule an onboarding meeting to discuss the project.
  • Once approved, authors receive a writing template that separates the guidebook into sections with specific instructions.
